Challenge: Design a playful logo that is representative of the preschool’s values.
Criteria: The dome illustration, color scheme and fonts used by the congregation must be utilized within the design.
After doing some initial research looking at several logo designs by a variety of other preschools, I realized I needed to figure out another way to find inspiration. I started researching domes, specifically, and found a single image of a dome climbing structure. From there, it all fell into place.
The preschool has 5 core values:
Tikkun Olam: Social & Environmental Justice
Radical Amazement: From the words of Abraham Joshua Heschel, ” …get up in the morning and look at the world in a way that takes nothing for granted. Everything is phenomenal; everything is incredible; never treat life casually. To be spiritual is to be amazed.”
Solution: All children have a desire and need to climb, so I turned the dome into a play structure to represent the young children that go to school within the walls of and are the future of this large congregation. The two silhouettes on the dome representing the little girls and boys are radically amazed by the beautiful kaleidoscope of butterflies fluttering between the two of them.
On the windows, you will find icons to represent the 4 other values – A tree for Tikkun Olam, a heart for Kavod, a handshake for Chesed and dancing silhouettes for Kehillah.
I added one more color to the scheme (orange) to pull the playfulness of the colors together.
As a whole, this logo and identity system represents the preschool as a whole while keeping in line with the congregation’s brand.
